Frequently Asked Questions
What if I have a life-threatening emergency?
Our service is intended to provide rapid evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations for everyday emergencies, but not life-threatening ones. If you are suffering from a life-threatening emergency condition, you should call 911 immediately or go to your nearest emergency room.
Examples of a life-threatening emergency condition include chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden weakness or trouble talking, trauma, severe abdominal pain, worsening of chronic pain, overdose, toxicology, severe allergic reaction, or any emergent complaint.
What is CAREnQ’s Prescription Policy?
After a consultation between a CAREnQ provider and a registered site visitor, the provider may recommend an appropriate prescription for your medical condition. While a video consult is preferred for all visits, a video consult may be required before prescribing medications. The requirement for video consults depends on the needs of the consult and state laws/regulations. CAREnQ is not an online pharmacy. When medically appropriate, our providers may electronically send a prescription to the pharmacy of your choice for purchase and pick-up. CAREnQ prescribers cannot replace a primary care provider and prescriptions will typically be limited to an emergency supply of less than 7 days for most conditions.
Many conditions can be caused by infections from viruses or other causes that do not respond to antibiotics. CAREnQ providers may recommend treatment other than antibiotics for a variety of conditions including colds, acute bronchitis, or sinusitis. Based on the medical evaluation, appropriate antibiotics may be prescribed if a bacterial infection is suspected. Over-prescribing of antibiotics can lead to unnecessary side effects such as rash, vomiting, diarrhea, or allergy in addition to making bacteria resistant to certain antibiotics in the future. Therefore, the CAREnQ provider may recommend a treatment course that does not involve antibiotics for conditions with non-bacterial causes.
Our providers can prescribe most medications, but only if medically needed. Telemedicine providers cannot legally prescribe any scheduled medications such as narcotics or sedatives over the internet. Please review the complete list of US Drug Enforcement Agency Controlled Substances at https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/schedules/index.html . Additionally, we do not provide prescriptions for elective medications including oral contraceptives, intimacy medications, or psychiatric medications.
What is CAREnQ’s refund policy?
Visit fees and/or co-pays for consultations requested by a registered site visitor are charged to a credit card at the beginning of a consultation. A consultation will be considered completed once a patient is provided medical advice or a prescription from our providers after a medical evaluation.
Not all consultations will result in a prescription. Based on the encounter history and exam, the medical provider may determine that a requested medication is in violation of CAREnQ prescribing policies, local/state/or federal laws, or medical appropriateness.
Refunds for completed consultations will not be issued purely due to the provider not prescribing a medication. Refunds may be issued for incomplete consults due to technical issues or other issues that prevent a complete consultation.
How do I pay for the cost of visit?
Your Health Savings Account (HSA) debit card may be used for treatment. We also currently accept credit card transactions. We look forward to supporting your healthcare needs in the future and as this area of medicine evolves we anticipate creating a relationship with your insurance provider. Please contact your insurer if you are interested in adding CAREnQ to your plan.
